Inspirational Job Loss Quote #3

Steve Jobs described his feelings of loss and abandonment in his 2005 commencement speech at Stanford:

“We had just released our finest creation — the Macintosh — a year earlier, and I had just turned 30. And then I got fired. How can you get fired from a company you started? … So at 30 I was out. And very publicly out. What had been the focus of my entire adult life was gone, and it was devastating.

…I didn’t see it then, but it turned out that getting fired from Apple was the best thing that could have ever happened to me. The heaviness of being successful was replaced by the lightness of being a beginner again, less sure about everything. It freed me to enter one of the most creative periods of my life.” ~ Steve Jobs

Job Loss Quote #4 – More Humor than Inspiration

Unemployment is Capitalism's way of getting you to plant a garden.

Inspirational Job Loss Quote #5

“From getting cut from the high school basketball team, to getting fired from jobs, getting credit cards rejected and cut up.

Rejection has only been a distraction, not a roadblock.  ‘Every no gets me closer to a yes,’ was the saying I used to use.” ~ Mark Cuban

Inspirational Job Loss Quote #7

This Teddy Roosevelt quote is about loss and life.  On February 14, 1884 Theodore Roosevelt’s wife and mother both died, though from two different illnesses.  While his quote is not specifically about job loss, I felt it belonged in this collection.

When Amy Purdy lost her legs she also lost her ability to do her job as a licensed massage therapist.  Her ability to find a new path for her life and career contain lessons for us all.  In sharing her story, Amy says”I didn’t write this book because I want you to say, “Wow, look at what that girl overcame—good for her.” I’m sharing my story because I want you to see what’s possible in your own life. Right here. Right now.”  (On My Own Two Feet: From Losing My Legs to Learning the Dance of Life)

Here are some of my favorite Amy Purdy quotes that I feel can apply to unemployment or other difficulties:

“We can either see our circumstances as a set of random cruelties and then allow those hardships to turn us into bitter victims; or we can recognize the fact that, though we may never comprehend why hard things happen, they do, and when they do, we can reach for a larger purpose beyond the pain. After surviving the loss of my legs and full kidney failure, that is what I have chosen to do.”

It’s not about breaking down borders. It’s about pushing off of them, and seeing what amazing places they might bring us.

Finally a quote that speaks to me, as I ponder….  can my story or can this meager website help others?

“You don’t always have to have the most amazing story. It’s learning to share the story you have that counts.”  ~Amy Purdy
